The club received its charter from Rotary International on October 18th 1947 and the name Dominguez-Carson was chosen to honor the founding families of the area.
When
chartered, the Club had 27 members each representing a different
occupation within the Dominguez-Carson area. The first meetings
were held at the Avalon Country Club. Several of these charter
members remained active in the club for more than 40 years.
In
2004, members of the Dominguez-Carson Rotary Club and Gardena
Rotary Club recognized that the opportunity to serve would be
enhanced by the merger of the two clubs. Both clubs shared many
things in common, including being chartered in 1947. There was
a belief that the strengths of each club would be complimentary
and lead to a more dynamic and successful organization. On January 1, 2005, the Rotary Club of Carson-Gardena-Dominguez came into existence with a renewed energy.
This merger brought the fundraising capabilities and community involvement of the Gardena Club, and the humanitarian missions, community involvement and scholarship awards of the Dominguez-Carson Club together.
The new club provided a means to strengthen resources and a more focused membership dedicated to serving the Carson and Gardena communities as well as continuing with humanitarian missions throughout the world. |
