This is service that each Rotarian gives to the people of the community through the conduct of business and professional services.  The object is to encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful professions; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.  From offering career guidance in high schools, to seeking ways to improve conditions in the workplace, Rotarians and their clubs engage in many different kinds of vocational service.

 

Some Vocational Service activities and programs are:

 

l     CNA Awards – Certified nursing aides (CNA) and care givers are the backbone of convalescent homes.  This annual event recognizes CNAs and care givers in the Carson and Gardena community care facilities.

 

l     Craft Talks – Forum in which new and current members present a program on themselves.  This allows the members to get to know one another (i.e. our profession, our hobbies, etc.)

 

l     Literacy Breakfast – Annual district breakfast where Rotarians can learn about various literacy programs and ways to get involved.

 

l     Reading by 9 – A multi-year campaign aimed at helping kindergarten through third-grade students read at grade level by the age of nine.  Club to procure books and donate to five schools in the Carson, Gardena and Compton area.

 

 

l     Vocational Tours – One to two vocational tours per year allowing members to recognize the worthiness of different professions and how we can use our occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
