Young people have become a very important component of the Rotary experience. They are the future of Rotary; introducing them to Rotary early teaches the valuable lessons embodied in Service Above Self.
As important is the support Rotary Clubs give to young people in their endeavors. Clubs give scholarship to students, donations to youth groups, and guidance to Interact Clubs at secondary schools.
Some Youth Service activities and programs are:
l Carson & Gardena Interact Clubs - Rotary-sponsored service clubs for young people ages 14 to 18, giving young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.
l CSUDH Scholarships – Provide scholarship assistance to deserving Carson and Gardena High School students who will be pursuing their higher education goals at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH).
l Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly – Assembly for young people from the ages of 18 to 28. Selected by local Rotary Club in their districts to receive the award, young people are given the unique opportunity to develop and express leadership skills and learn to accept individual responsibility.
l Sellery School – This is a school for children with special needs. The club sponsors a petting zoo and a holiday program.
l Speech Contests – Fifth Grade Essay & Speech Contest and Interact Speech Contest which the club will sponsor with participation from all district clubs.
l South Bay Rotaract – Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true “partners in service” and key members of the Rotary family. |
